The Cascade Creek Retreat is a log home vacation dream come true. It also helps that it has a Qualmark 5 star Gold sustainability rating for a holiday home. This is a luxurious, rustic log home that was hand built and it's just as impressive on the interior as it is on the exterior. But the only thing is, you'll have to go all the way to New Zealand to enjoy this log cabin unless you already live in New Zealand of course. The cabin is located near the city of Dunedin in New Zealand and is pretty much in the middle of nowhere making it perfect for that getaway you've always dreamed of. It has complete privacy since there are no other houses within 4 km and it's also suitable for families or groups of up to 6 people, so it's great for any type of vacation. The log cabin is situated on a sheep and beef farm the top of a hill with 180-degree views of the bush surrounding the land. As you can imagine the wildlife is pretty incredible out there too, with plenty of wild birds to watch right from the cabin, as well as great walking trails through the bush and through farmlands. A large open fire and steaming hot outdoor baths also make this a very romantic spot for couples to enjoy on their own. The retreat has two comfortable, super king beds which can be separated into two large single beds. There is also a pull-down Murphey style queen size bed in front of the fire with spectacular views.
One of the bedrooms is up in the mezzanine, and the other is downstairs keeping privacy for all guests staying at the house. The hosts also provide nice amenities like luxury bathrobes to make it a memorable and comfortable stay. Inside the log cabin, there's also a small kitchen with a gas oven and a microwave so guests can make their own meals. They also offer meals made by a private chef and gourmet baskets for guests who don't want to have to worry about meal prep so they can fully relax and unwind. The place is also sustainable since it's completely solar powered and hydro-powered off the grid. When building the log cabin, the builders used as many recycled and second-hand materials in the process to make for an eco-friendly and beautiful log home. One of the other great features of the cabin is the large deck outside that sits above the trees and waterfalls. What a gorgeous spot to sit and enjoy the view, you might even want to bring some binoculars. The log cabin is also wheelchair friendly making it accessible for those in wheelchairs or using walkers. While children are allowed, pets are not allowed at this cabin; neither is smoking so as to keep the natural balance with nature intact.
The property is located 10 minutes off the Southern Scenic Route and is easy to reach by car. From the property, there are many activities to enjoy including a day trip to the Catlins where you can surf or kayak, and where you can see the yellow-eyed penguins and some cute seals. Guests can also do some fruit picking close by in Central Otago. It's also a fantastic place to tour on bicycle and was voted as Lonely Planets top 10 bicycle rides in the world. Guests can even opt to take part in the daily activities on the farm including tending to the sheep and cows. Doesn't this log cabin accommodation sound like paradise? Would you travel to New Zealand to experience a log cabin vacation like this?
