Consider The “Signal Shed” For An Affordable Offgrid Escape

Some times you just need a place to get away from it all, if you are looking to get a cabin in the woods, Consider The “Signal Shed” For An Affordable Offgrid Escape! Couple Mariah Morrow and Ryan Lingard, wanted a cabin that they could rest and relax in on the weekends and for the occasional week getaway from their busy life in Portland, Oregon. So they looked for cheap land and decided to buy a plot that was just far enough away from the hectic city life and close to the little town of Joseph. Their land still wasn't dirt cheap, at $47,000 so they needed to build a structure on it that wasn't overly expensive, but had all of the comforts they wanted.

So Ryan chose to design the cabin they have there today. They figured that since it is a cabin, they could deal with the more rustic style and chose not to install running water or electricity to cut costs. There is a portable toilet and a wood fire stove that they have for cooking and to heat the cabin, but they use lanterns for light and bring in their own water. The cabin turned out to be 130 square feet, with just enough room for a loft bed, a table and chairs and a nice little kitchen. And it only cost them $10,000 to build.

Since then the cabin has actually won awards, and now Ryan sells the plans for the cabin and also a prefabricated one that people can purchase and build themselves! So all around, the cabin is a great success and provides them with a place to go to get away from it all for a while. It would make quite a nice place to live in full time even too if that is what you would like! So head over to 'Tiny House for Us' by clicking the link in the section below for more!
