The stunning 500-acre Idaho log house ranch once owned by actor Steve McQueen was up for sale in 2013 and priced at $7,400,000. The log house ranch at the time had plenty of upgrades to include modern, luxurious wood cabin accommodations, but no giant mansion. The log house ranch has a two-bedroom wood cabin that was built in 1990 attached to a 1,700-square-foot entertaining cabin building in 2010. The log house ranch also has a four-bay garage to keep vehicles out of the locations intense winter snowstorms. McQueen was drawn to the location by his third wife, Ford model Barbara Minty, who had purchased a smaller log cabin spread in nearby Sun Valley, Idaho in the mid-1970s. Minty retained ownership of the Pioneer Moon Ranch, known to her and McQueen as Crazy M Ranch, after his death in 1980 and sold it in 1999.

Like McQueen, Minty also preferred to live on ranches, and she owned a few properties in Idaho. It was her love for Idaho that led McQueen to buy the ranch. The log house ranch with mountain views is nestled at the bottom of the Pioneer Mountains, and sits on 500 acres and includes a 1.5-mile stretch of Big Wood River’s East Fork. This log house ranch is more of a compound than a single-family log home. The log house ranch has a two bedroom, two bath log cabin building that was built in 1990, a log cabin annex structure with living and storage space that was built in 2010, and the four-car garage/workshop. This is an excellent location for winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding, snowmobiling and hiking. In the area, you will also find plenty of mountain biking trails, hiking and trail running, and more. The Big Wood River winds through the heart of Sun Valley providing the perfect location for fly fishing.

When McQueen was living on the log cabin property, the residences were much more rustic. The renovations on the log house ranch had the property being renamed Pioneer Moon Ranch. McQueen isn't the only Hollywood celebrity to prefer the seclusion of Idaho. Bruce Willis previously owned several homes with his ex-wife Demi Moore, to include a bar in downtown Hailey. Carole King also had a remote Idaho ranch, and in previous years the ski slopes of Idaho were favorites of stars such as Lucille Ball, Gary Cooper, and Janet Leigh. And its no wonder that this location is as popular as it is, with views everywhere you look, this is the perfect location for log cabin living and scenic mountain views.
